UBAY is located at the Northeastern part of Bohol along the famous Cunigao channel. It has a total land area of 29,205 hectares and an approximate population of 59,827 with 44 barangays at present. The origin of this place is shrowded with legends and stories.

The term "UBAY-UBAY sa Baybayon" was known as traders who used to travel on sailboats and canals to avoid the strong current from the channel. In the hinterlands, there was a single trail to follow by the native folks in going to the center of trade. This trail was also located along the side of the sandy beach or "ubay sa baybayon" in vernacular. This term became the byword of the inhabitants and traders. Later on the term "Ubay" or along the side became the original name of the community. Formerly,UBAY was a part of Talibon.

It was officially proclaimed by the Spanish government as a separate town from the municipality of Talibon in 1877. The first town executive was Toribio Reyes. Tan Toribio as he was officially known by the people, assumed leadership in January 15, the same day the first town fiesta was held in honor of its Patron Saint, Senior Santo Nino.

UBAY which happened to be a flourishing little community before, is at present a large community whose inhabitants never cease to dream for a bright future in order to uplift their standard of living.

Ubayanos, now residing elsewhere in the country and abroad, often come home during fiesta to celebrate the affair with their loved ones and share the joy of reviving the beautiful old, old story on the origin of the place.
